To qualify for a diving license, one has to take a course (varying in length from five days to two weeks) at a recognized centre, during which one learns how to breathe through a mouthpiece attached to compressed air tanks how to control the speed of one's descent and ascent what depths and air pressures are safe and for how long how to work out the amount of air you have left, and how to help someone in distress.

The Aquasport International Red Sea Diving Centre is situated on Coral Beach, 5 km. south of the town of Elat. Regular 5-day scuba courses are given in the internationally staffed diving school 250 scuba units are available to certified divers. Also courses in night diving, deep diving, research diving and underwater photography.

Wind-surfing courses and equipment for hire on beach in front of the centre. (Wind-surfing is becoming increasingly popular you carry the board under one arm and the mast, sail and bar under the other at sea, you have all the pleasure of sailing on a surfboard. The techniques can supposedly be mastered in 10 lessons.) Within walking distance of the centre, there are reefs of outstanding interest. Bus No. 15 serves Elat/Coral Beach every 30 minutes, 7 days a week.
