AFULA
Return to the crossroads and continue (left) to Afula on Road No. 65. This
town serves as the commercial, transportation and administrative centre for the
Jezreel Valley. On Succot there is a Harvest Festival and horse race in Afula.
On reaching Afula turn first right and first left, passing the Central
Bus Station. Follow the road uphill, turning right towards Mt. Tabor and
Tiberias. The left fork (Road No. 60) leads to Nazareth and Haifa.
Continue on Road No. 65, climbing the hill, past the hospital, with more
spectacular views of the Jezreel Valley on your right. The road passes Givat
HaMoreh with Afula's newest suburbs, then the sunflower fields of Nein. A gas
station and restaurant stand at the entrance to Daverat. Mt. Tabor looms on the
left while the smooth-coloured fields form a carpet of colour in the depths of
the valley.
Pass Tamra and then turn left into Road No. 7266, over the stream where
cattle and sheep graze. Swing right at the entrance to Dabburiya, a pleasant
Arab village at the foot of Mt. Tabor. Ignore the left fork to Kfar Shibli and
continue up Mt. Tabor, taking care to drive slowly because, although the road
is tarred all the way to the summit, there are scores of hairpin bends.
