METZUDAT YESHA
Bitter fighting raged around this British police post during the War of
Independence, because it commands the heights above the Hula Valley and is at
an important intersection for the roads leading above the Naphtali mountains to
Metula, as well as the roads filtering down to the Upper Galilee settlements.
From the observation post you can see far across the Hula Valley and
across to the Golan Heights.
The memorial behind the observation post lists the names of the Israelis
who fell in action during the battles of 1948 in this area. Here, too, are
buried some of the twenty-eight fighters who attempted to destroy the fortress.
Continue down the hill to the Hula Valley and turn right for the return
trip to Tiberias on Road No. 90. The route now links up with Route No. 18. If
you did not have time to see Hazor along that route, you have another
opportunity now.
