MILE UPON MILE OF SANDY BEACHES

Even if you never strayed more than a mile inland from the Mediterranean Sea, you'd find more than enough to occupy you for your whole vacation. The sandy Mediterranean coastline, from Ashqelon in the south right up to the Lebanese border, is dotted with modern seaside resorts and coastal cities.
Rosh Haniqra, reached by cable car, in the north is a warren of limestone grottoes and caves carved out of the white cliffs. Nahariya is a holiday resort with good beaches and wind surfing, while the fascinating Crusader city of Akko is enclosed by fortified sea walls that once successfully thwarted Napoleon. Haifa, Israel's third largest city, straddling historic Mount Carmel, is a whole world in itself, with its beaches, port Bahai Temple and gardens.
Dor one of Israel's finest beaches is just north of Caesarea, home of some of Israel's most spectacular archaeological sites and the country's only golf course. Netanya, the "Rose of the Sharon", is a resort town par excellence, with beautiful beaches and a rich variety of activities in the town square. Herzliyya-on-Sea, famous for its luxury hotels and well-kept beaches, now has an added attraction - a brand new yachting marina. South of Tel Aviv are the beaches of Bat Yam, the sand dunes of Ashdod, and the seaside resort of Ashqelon, a former Philistine city associated with Samson and Delilah. Along the length of the coastline, a beach culture prevails: promenades, beachside cafes and restaurants, well-tended beaches, showers and other beach facilities.
